Dog Days of Summer
Never again in your lifetime will the Red Planet be so spectacular!
This month and next Earth is catching up with Mars, an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the last 5,000 years but it may be as long as 60,000 years.
The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August Mar will rise in the east at 10 p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m.
By the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30 a.m. That's pretty convenient when it comes to seeing something that no human has seen in recorded history. So mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month. Share with your children and grandchildren. No one alive today will ever see this again.
The planets are always moving in orbit around the sun. As they move over decades or centuries, they continually "line up" into different configurations.
On May 5, 2000 there will be a large conjunction of planets; the Grand Alignment concentrates all seven visible planets (or the Sun, Moon and five visible planets) in the sign of Taurus.
Planets: As used in Astrology, this refers to the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Earth is excluded as it is our point of reference.
This 'alignment' is simply the result of normal rotational paths that each of the planets, and the sun, follow.
Some say the phenomenon has the potential of creating colossal cosmic forces which could impact our planet. Occurring only once every 6,000 years or so, the rare alignment of Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon is causing a great deal of speculation -- with a lot of very different predictions.
Some people suggest that the result will be cataclysmic. They point to Revelations as just such a warning and tell us to prepare ourselves spiritually.
One reason for the cataclysm is the anticipated gravitational pull from the planets. The action of the combined gravitational pull from these planets on the ice building up at the South Pole is supposed to cause a pole shift. Scientists dismiss such claims of earthquakes and flooding or pole shifts because the tidal forces exerted are too small.
Whether or not this celestial alignment is actually dangerous -- or potentially transforming -- remains to be seen.
Some possibilities that have been discussed:
A Catastrophic Planetary Pole Shift -- earthquakes shake the earth -- great flooding creates entirely new land masses -- other natural calamities -- all part of the earth changes some have been predicting for a while now.
An Asteroid Strikes Earth -- or a meteorite -- causes huge tidal waves and devastation.
The Rapture or Mass Ascension -- with the chosen ones assuming new physical forms -- the world utterly transformed.
A World-Wide Spiritual Transformation -- a tremendous expansion in human consciousness -- a spiritual great awakening.
Worldwide Unity Achieved -- people unite in a day of prayer and meditation -- universal harmony is established.
Absolutely Nothing -- everything stays the same -- no changes.
Timing of the Grand Alignment
Throughout May 3, 2000 the Moon will join all of the visible planets in Taurus. Then, on the night of May 3rd in the US, or early on the morning of May 4 at 4:12 GMT the exact New Moon conjoins the Sun at the center of the cluster.
Mars will have already gone into Gemini at this point. On the morning of May 5 at 8:08 GMT the tightest cluster will be reached when the Moon conjoins Mars in Gemini. From that point on the Moon quickly departs from the planetary line-up, while the rest of the multiple conjunction remains almost as tight or tighter throughout the month of May.

Peak Viewing August 12
Meteor..This is the most famous of all meteor showers. It never fails to provide an impressive display and, due to its summertime appearance, it tends to provide the majority of meteors seen by non-astronomy enthusiasts. Activity from this meteor shower is visible from about July 23 until August 22 with the time of maximum visibility on August 12 and 13, with as many as 80 meteors per hour visible from dark sky locations throughout the Northern Hemisphere.
the streak of light seen in the night time sky when a meteoroid or meteorite goes through the earth's atmosphere.
The action of the Perseid meteor shower is caused by a comet, in this case periodic comet Swift-Tuttle. Fortunately there's no danger of Swift-Tuttle hitting the earth. It's about 6 miles wide and a collision would be catastrophic. Instead, the stars of this show are tiny grains of dust and debris, most smaller than a grain of sand. They are the rubble left behind when Swift-Tuttle occasionally visits the inner solar system.
Are we in any danger from falling debris? Probably not. Most of the dramatic streaks we see in the sky are caused by particles that incinerate before they hit the ground. However, satellites and spacecraft can be damaged. Meteors can poke holes in solar panels, pit the surfaces, and short out electronics.
How best to view the Perseids:
Normally the best time to view meteors is after midnight, when the earth's rotation aligns our line of sight with the direction of the Earth's travel around the Sun. The year 2002 will find the moon in the first half of its phase, the sky should still be fairly dark, enhancing sky-viewing possibilities.
After sunset, the constellation of Perseus will be low in the northeast. Take a lawn chair and a blanket to your favorite viewing area, and set up. Allow yourself 10 or 15 minutes for your eyes to become adjusted to the dark.
Locate the constellation of Cassiopeia in the northern part of the sky, recognizing its familiar `W' or `M' shape, with the top of the W pointed north. The location in the sky from which the meteors will appear to come is located approximately 20 degrees (the width of your hand from thumb to little finger with your arm totally extended) to the west, and a few degrees to the south of Cassiopeia.
Focus your eyes on the stars, in the general direction of Perseus, relax, sit back, and enjoy the show!!!

1999 Solar Eclipse
and the Search for the TruthThe solar eclipse of 1999 was one of the most incredible "coincidental" symbolic events of all time. The date, August 11, 1999 coincides with major crop circle formations that have appeared since 1990. The time of the "Diamond Ring Effect" at 11:11 a.m., coincides with the hundreds of people having the incredible "11:11" phenomenon, and with Solar's concept of the "11:11 Doorway" opening in the belt of Orion. Some connect it with Revelation 11:11. (See here)
The location, Cornwall, England, where the eclipse shadow first strikes land, is directly related to the Legends of King Arthur and the Holy Grail. Just northeast of Cornwall is Glastonbury, said to have been established by the Biblical Joseph of Arimathea, who gathered the Blood of Christ in a chalice at the crucifixion. Most of the crop circle formations have appeared in the "Wessex Triangle," one corner of which is Glastonbury.
Prior to and during the eclipse, the planets will align in a "Grand Cross," pointing to the Zodiac signs that correspond to the Four Living Creatures of Ezekiel and Revelation. In July 1999, there will be a lunar eclipse, as the planets align in the Grand Cross.
This may be related to Nostradamus quatrain C10, Q72:
"In 1999 and seven months
From the sky will descend a great terrifying King
Who will resuscitate the great King ANGOLMOIS.
Before and after, Mars reigns happily."
In the year 1999 and seven months... on July 28, a total eclipse of the Moon appeared in the sky while a celestial cross created by Sun, Moon, Jupiter and Mars, surrounded the Earth. This heavenly sign marked the commencement of a great epoch in the history of our race. Sun in Lion (Leo), Moon in Man (Aquarius), Mars in Eagle (Scorpio) and Jupiter in Ox (Taurus). These are the creatures of the Apocalypse, The Ceribum, and also the foursome who will join to create a heavenly Sphinx. The Earth's shadow that day will conceal the Moon within a celestial pyramid.
From the sky will descend a terrifying King... The Sun is King and from this heavenly Lion will proceed the shadow light which creates the lunar eclipse - a terrifying event - at least historically. As the occultists warn, "Beware of Caput and Cauda (the moons nodes), for they are the Powers of an Eclipse."
Who will bring back to life the great King ANGOLMOIS... that is, the SUN. Two weeks following July 28 the moon will swing round and create a Total Solar Eclipse on August 11, 1999. Angolmois is an anagram for Sang Lion in French meaning Blood of the Lion. It is also an anagram for SOLOMON, that is, the Lion of Judah, Solomon, SOL AMMON RA. The event marks the Second Coming that day but not in the commonly expected way.
Before and after Mars reigns happily... A Chart of the heavens for August 11, 1999 drawn at France, the location where Nostradamus most likely penned this Quatrain, will find the planet Mars positioned in the first house of the Zodiac near the Ascendant. As the ruling planet of Aries, Mars will indeed "reign" in its place of natural rulership which is the first house. Mars, generally, rules the blood and may likely refer to a particular bloodline associated with the Blood of the Lion. Mars will oppose Saturn at the time of total solar eclipse. This is a powerful opposition -- particularly at eclipse time when it occurs on rare occasions.
On August 11, 1999, not one but two planetary crosses will surround the Earth at the moment of total solar eclipse. The first cross is four-armed and made up of Sun/Moon in Leo, Mars in Scorpio, Saturn in Taurus, Uranus in Aquarius: The lion, the Eagle, the Ox and the Man.
The second cross is in the form of a Tau or T-cross formed by Mercury, Jupiter and Neptune. The Tau is the badge of the triumphant Initiate who has been "passed over" and spared by the Angel of Death.

Grand Cross and the Eclipse, August 1999
Part IIAt 11:11 am on August 11 1999, the sun was eclipsed by the moon. This eclipse simultaneously activated an astrological phenomenon, THE GRAND FIXED CROSS, whose four arms comprise the four fixed signs of the zodiac. As the cross formed, it caused great points of crisis on the planet and in our lives. We cannot avoid the crisis, we must engage with the process. It is a right of passage and an opportunity to transform the planet and ourselves. The cross will affect the planet for the ensuing six months in the form of a pulsation or series of waves. Simply being conscious of this vast cosmic event gets you a place on the beach! Participating means going surfing!
The GRAND FIXED CROSS is influenced by the second ray of love for the establishment of right values.
Our opportunity is to leave the desires of the personality
and become soul-centered beings upon the cross of light.
(Top of Page)The 11:11 phenomenon is the universal "wake up call" for all light workers. Seeing the repetition of 11:11 is your inner self reminding your conscious being of your responsibility of being a light worker. A light worker's mission is to hold the light energy of the universe and anchor it to this world. We do this by honoring ourselves, loving ourselves, and accepting ourselves. In honoring these qualities, we honor our connection to all of humankind and recognize the intuition of our spirit-self. We spread and transmit the wonderful energy the universe offers through example .. by showing others love .. by sharing our love with those who disbelieve or are in pain and searching for truth in their lives.
(Top of Page)"Dog days" is the name for the most sultry period of summer, from about July 3 to Aug. 11. Named in early times by observers in countries bordering the Mediterranean, the period was reckoned as extending from 20 days before to 20 days after the conjunction of Sirius (the dog star) and the sun. In the latitude of the Mediterranean region this period coincided with hot days that were plagued with disease and discomfort.
Dog Days of Summer
Dog days are often described as days of great heat. The term comes from the Romans, who called the six or eight hottest weeks of the summer caniculares dies. According to their theory, the Dog Star or Sirius, the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major, rising with the sun, added to the sun's heat. As such, the dog days in July and August bore the combined heat of both the Dog Star and the sun.
dog' days", noun
1. the sultry part of the summer, supposed to occur during the period
that Sirius, the Dog Star, rises at the same time as the sun: now often
reckoned from July 3 to August 11.
2. a period marked by lethargy, inactivity, or indolence.
